مقدمة:
إن السرطان عبء ثقيل ينمو بصورة مضطردة في هذه الألفية، إذ أن هنالك 100 حالة إصابة لكل 100.000 من السكان، وفق سجلات منظمة الصحة العالمية. وتشير الإحصاءات أيضاً إلى أن (نحو 72% من مجمل وفيات السرطان في عام 2007م في البلدان المنخفضة الدخل والبلدان المتوسطة الدخل، ومن المتوقع أن يتواصل ارتفاع عدد الوفيات الناجمة عن السرطان على الصعيد العالمي، فالتقديرات تشير إلى أنها ستبلغ 12 مليون حالة في عام 2030م).
تعتبر جميعة مستشفى سرطان الأطفال 99199 نبتة خير في حدائق الأعمال الخيرية التي تزخر بها بلادنا الطاهرة. حيث بدأت كلجنة خيرية تطوعية لبناء مستشفى للمرضى من الأطفال المصابين بالسرطان، خاصة وأن السودان لا توجد به مستشفى متخصصة في سرطان الأطفال، بل كل ما هناك عدد محود من الأسِرّه والخدمات الطبية العامة بمستشفى الذرة القومي.

الهدف:
جمعية مستشفى سرطان الأطفل 99199 تكونت لإنشاء أول وأكبر مستشفى متكامل لعلاج سرطان الأطفال في السودان، يقدم كل خدمات التشخيص والعلاج والاستشارات مجاناً دون أن يتحمل المريض عناء وتكاليف العلاج والدواء.
الرؤية:
تسعى جميعة مستشفى سرطان الأطفال 99199 لبذل أقصى الجهد لخفض نسب الإصابة وتحقيق أعلى نسب شفاء للأطفال المرضى. كما تسعى للحد من الآثار والأعراض الجانبية للعلاج بما يضمن حياة ومستقبل أفضل للأطفال بعد الشفاء ويقدم المستشفى خدماته لجميع المرضى بصرف النظر عن المستوى المادي أو الاجتماعي أو الثقافي أو الجنسية أو الديانة. كذلك يهدف المشروع إلى اجتذاب أفضل الأطباء وغيرهم من الخبراء وتوفير سبل بقائهم بالمستشفى، وتوفير مقر للإقامة القصيرة لأفراد الأسر المرافقة لمرضى الولايات. كما يسهم في رفع الوعي بشأن سرطان الأطفال وسبل الكشف عنه مبكراً في المجتمع وتوفير برامج دعم للمرضى ولمن يقدمون الرعاية لهم في مختلف مراحل التشخيص والعلاج والسيطرة على المرضى.
حجم المشروع:
ينحصر حجم المشروع في الآتي:
بناء مرافق المستشفى.
تركيب وتشغيل كافة المعدات اللازمة (الطبية وغيرها).
اجتذاب الخبرات في كافة المجالات وتوفير سبل بقائها بالمستشفى.
تأسيس مركز إعلامي لجمع المعلومات والمعارف المتعلقة بالسرطان وتحليلها ونشرها.
تركيب وتشغيل كافة المعدات اللازمة (الطبية وغيرها).
اجتذاب الخبرات في كافة المجالات وتوفير سبل بقائها بالمستشفى.
تأسيس مركز إعلامي لجمع المعلومات والمعارف المتعلقة بالسرطان وتحليلها ونشرها.
تكلفة المشروع:
تشتمل موازنة هذا المشروع على بناء المستشفى والمرافق والبرامج التابعة له ويمكن تلخيص الأعطال فيما يلي:

Project Components of
The Children’s Cancer Hospital
Project Goal
To construct, in Sudan, the first specialized Children Cancer Hospital (CCH) that provides professional medical and paramedical services for free to diagnose and treat children with cancer from the ages 0 – 18 years.
The CCH will not only provide medical services to our children with cancer but will also:
1. Carry on research on causes of the disease
2. Develop and training staff on the field
3. Provide patients with schooling, mind development activates and adequate entertainment in hospital (specially patients on long stay)
4. Provide a wide range of awareness programs (for communities and for families with cancer patients)
Project Justification
It is estimated that there are 14,000 new cases of cancer every year in Sudan. 20% of malignancies occur in children. That means 2,700-3,000 children are affected per year. Nevertheless, Sudan has limited facilities for treating children with cancer. In addition, medical services, diagnostic and early detection facilities are lacking in many parts of the country.
Poverty In Sudan, is not helping as 40% live below the poverty line - earning less than 1 US$ per day. If treatment is not free and available, the family might not take great strides to bring the child to medical attention. If we take the example of a family of 8 children, parents will be reluctant to accompany the sick child to the nearest medical centre and would therefore rely on Al Faky to cure the child.
Technically, there is no justification to the high mortality rate among children with cancer especially because a lot of these tumours are curable disease, with a high cure rate that exceeds 80%.

The treatment and follow-up period, for children, varies between 6 month to 3 years followed by a 5 years monitoring period. This applies to curable diseases like ALL types of leukaemia; whereas, in cases like nasopharyngeal cancer the child will have to be followed-up till the end of his/her life, same as in adults.
Children with cancer are very susceptible to infections, especially those who have leukaemia, or those on chemotherapy. .

This department has a maximum capacity of 60 chemo beds.
To receiving approximately 180 patients’ visits every day when functioning with full capacity.
Assessment and Triage room of 12 beds, in this area, a nurse checks the child's temperature, blood pressure and pulse, as well as height and weight and blood samples.

3. Impatient Department of a maximum capacity of 150 inpatient beds.
Each room has one patient with a possible capacity of two beds to be set according to the urgent needs. This facility is expected to provide service to 2700- 3000 patients per year.
Intensive care unit of 18 beds is affiliated with this facility.
Insulation unit of 18 beds for patients susceptible to infections.

4. Radiation Therapy Department:
It plays a major role in the management of children patients with malignant diseases in Sudan and offers a wide range of standard radiotherapy techniques for different sites which may be used with chemotherapy concomitantly or sequentially.
